Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 3, 2026
1.About Us and This Policy
Cited is operated by CovalentCareers, Inc. (dba Eyes On Eyecare) (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), a California corporation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Cited mobile application and any related services (collectively, the “App”). By accessing or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.
For privacy questions or requests, contact us at: legal@eyesoneyecare.com
2.Who Uses Cited
Cited is intended exclusively for licensed healthcare professionals in the United States. The App is not directed to patients, consumers, or children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 or from individuals who are not licensed healthcare professionals.
3.Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
A. Identity and Contact Information
We collect your name and email address when you create an account. Your email is also used to send one-time passcode (OTP) links for sign-in.
B. Professional Identifier — NPI Number
We collect your National Provider Identifier (NPI) number to verify that you are a licensed healthcare professional and to gate access to the App. An NPI is a publicly available, government-issued identifier assigned to licensed healthcare providers in the United States. It is not patient health information and does not constitute protected health information (“PHI”) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”).
C. User-Generated Content
If you participate in the Cited Key Opinion Leader (“KOL”) contributor program, we collect short video recordings you create discussing peer-reviewed research papers, as well as associated metadata (such as title, paper reference, and timestamps). KOL content is reviewed and approved by our editorial team before it is published in the App.
D. Usage and Analytics Data
We collect information about how you interact with the App, including features you access, content you view, and in-app events.
E. Diagnostics and Crash Data
We collect crash logs and error reports to maintain App stability and diagnose technical issues.
F. Device and Push Notification Token
We collect your device’s push notification token to send you notifications about new content or updates, if you have enabled notifications.
4.How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and verify your professional credentials;
- Authenticate you via email one-time passcode;
- Curate and personalize your in-app experience;
- Publish and display KOL video content you contribute;
- Generate AI-powered paper digests using our third-party AI provider (see Section 6);
- Send transactional communications (such as sign-in links and account notices);
- Send push notifications about new content or features (if you have opted in);
- Analyze usage to improve the App;
- Debug and resolve technical issues;
- Comply with applicable law and protect our legal rights.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6.AI-Generated Content and Data Sent to OpenAI
The App includes automated, AI-generated summaries (“digests”) of peer-reviewed research papers. To generate these digests, we transmit the text of published, publicly available research papers to OpenAI, L.L.C., our AI service provider. We do not transmit your personal account information (such as your name, email, or NPI) to OpenAI in connection with digest generation.
AI-generated digests are labeled clearly as auto-generated summaries. They may contain errors or omissions. You should always consult the primary source paper, a link to which is provided alongside every digest.
OpenAI’s use of data transmitted through the API is governed by OpenAI’s API Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. We rely on OpenAI’s API data use commitments, which provide that data submitted via the API is not used to train OpenAI’s models by default.
7.Analytics and Apple App Tracking Transparency
Mixpanel collects analytics data about your in-app behavior. This data is used solely for internal product analytics; it is not shared with advertising networks or used for cross-app behavioral advertising. Accordingly, the App does not trigger Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) requirement for this analytics activity.
If our analytics practices change in a way that would constitute “tracking” under Apple’s ATT framework, we will update this Policy and seek your permission as required.
8.HIPAA
Cited does not handle, store, or transmit any patient protected health information (PHI) as defined under HIPAA. Your NPI number is a government-issued professional identifier that is publicly available; it is not PHI. The App is a professional information and education tool for clinicians, not a platform for patient data. HIPAA’s requirements with respect to business associate agreements are not triggered by Cited’s operations.
9.Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your account information and usage data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information at any time through the in-app account deletion feature or by contacting us at legal@eyesoneyecare.com. Upon a valid deletion request, we will delete or de-identify your personal information, except to the extent we are required to retain it by applicable law or for legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention).
KOL video content you have contributed may remain on the platform in de-identified form or may be removed at your request, subject to any license you have granted to us under our KOL Contributor Agreement.
10.Your Privacy Rights
If you reside in California or another U.S. state with applicable consumer privacy laws, you may have the following rights with respect to your personal information:
- Right to Know: You may request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect about you, and how we use and share it.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise your rights, contact us at legal@eyesoneyecare.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within the time frames required by applicable law (generally 45 days, with a permitted extension).
11.Children’s Privacy
Cited is designed for use by licensed healthcare professionals and is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a minor, we will promptly delete it.
12.International Data Transfers
The App is operated in the United States and is intended for U.S. based users. Our sub-processors may store and process data in data centers located in the United States or other countries. By using the App, you acknowledge that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those in your home jurisdiction.
13.Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. However, no security system is completely impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
14.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by posting a prominent notice in the App or by email to the address associated with your account. The “Effective Date” at the top of this Policy reflects the date of the most recent revision. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy.
